It is believed that early day Indians living in the area and coming upon this distinctive sandstone rock formation, very fittingly bestowed the title of the "Eagle Rock," which in actual fact does bear a striking resemblance to the head and wings of an eagle in flight.
In later years, as settlers began arriving in the area, the name was attached to include a large area of land surrounding the rock, mostly in a westerly direction in what is now called Eagle Rock.
Today this is a vibrant, hip and urban community with a broad diversity of ethnic cultures and socio-economic spectrums. Because this area is ideally situated between Downtown LA and Pasadena, Eagle Rock is a very popular choice for home buyers looking for urban life with a suburban vibe.
Housing choices are just as diverse as the residents with styles ranging from cute California and Spanish Bungalows, English Tudor, stately Craftsman and Spanish/Moorish mansions. There are also some really great Mid Century Moderns sprinkled through out.
One of the best developments in the area in recent years is the abundance of good eats. I love the Coffee Table for casual fare (must try their chicken salad, OMG) and Lemon Grass for some of the best Vietnamese Food in an English Speaking neighborhood. Their sandwiches are a very reasonable version of the real deal.
There are so many great choices... Look for a full restaurant guide in this space, soon!
